JUST PLAIN
DEAD
Paying the bills with crime since 1989
She was thirsty. Dead thirsty.
A dame's gotta dip her bill, and here are some of Smithie's standout recipies for thirst-quenching your inner juice fiend.
Sephia-Toned Old Fashioned
Smooth and throaty, this classic belly-warmer is as easy as duck soup .
2 oz. bourbon
1 oz. tonic water
dollup of maple syrup
3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
small orange slice
Drop a dollup of maple syrup, the bitters and small orange slice into the bottom of a lowball glass. Muddle vigorously. Pour in bourbon and water. Stir in a few large cubes of ice and serve.
Gin Salad
Cool down in the dead of a heat wave with this handy completion to your five-a-day.
2 oz. gin
2 oz. tonic water
1 oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
handful of basil
1 dash Balsamic vinegar
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and add in some ice. Shake youthfully for 30 seconds. Strain and serve in a chilled highball glass.
A Dark and Stormy Night
As murky as the stream running through the Arroyo Seco and as fresh and spicy as your favorite taco truck, this is truly the double-fister's delight. Booze and beer never got along so copacetic-like.
2 oz. dark rum
3 oz. spicy ginger beer
1/2 oz. lime juice
lime wedge
Fill a highball glass with ice cubes and pour the ginger beer in the bottom of the glass, followed by the rum, then the lime juice. No stirring. Garnish with a lime wedge.
